What's changing in the river red gum forests of the Riverina?

From July 1 2010 the NSW Government established more than 100,000 hectares of river red gum parks in the Riverina, with a support package of up to $97 million for affected timber industry workers, regional communities and to set up and manage the new parks.

The range of new reserves, including national parks, regional parks and Indigenous Protected Areas, together with existing parks in Victoria, form the largest area of river red gum in conservation reserves in the world.

The NSW Government is committed to continuing to provide a variety of opportunities for local people and for people from further afield to experience and enjoy the magnificent forests.

These reserves were  established following an assessment on the Riverina Bioregion by the Natural Resources Commission.
